About Alexander Residential Design

Alexander Residential Design is owned and operated by Douglas Alexander.

Douglas has over 22 years experience working as a designer in the Residential Architecture industry. Alexander Residential Design was formed in 2004.

Douglas began his career in 1986, right out of college, working for renowned Los Angeles-based Gus Duffy Architect.  Gus Duffy’s firm specializes exclusively in one-of-a-kind, high-end custom homes.  While there, Douglas started as a draftsman, and worked his way up to Architectural Project Manager.  In this role, Douglas partnered directly with clients, structural engineers, civil engineers, surveyors, contractors, interior designers, city planning commissions, and permit expeditors.

After 18 years developing his technical talent and skills with Gus Duffy, Douglas decided to establish Alexander Residential Design.   His passion for design, unparalleled listening and problem solving skills, and his down-to-earth demeanor set him apart from other design firms.

Douglas’ “total concept” approach to the design process and his extensive professional contacts and partnerships provide him the ability to deliver personalized, first-class service to his clients.  He has worked with celebrities and other high-profile clients, from Hancock Park to Beverly Hills and the Palisades, and throughout the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys.  His projects range from complete residential design to room additions and remodels.  Douglas uses state-of-the-art 3-D design software, as well as hand-drawn sketches, to transform your dreams and visions into reality—into your perfect home.

Douglas has an Associate's degree in Architectural Drafting from Brigham Young University.  He also graduated with honors from California State University Northridge with a Bachelors Degree in Architectural History.  Douglas has also broadened his education by taking numerous specialty architecture classes from the highly-respected Woodbury University Architecture program.

Douglas has been an Associate member of the San Fernando Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) since 1988.

Alexander Residential Design, its principal or its staff, are not Architects, Landscape Architects, or Engineers. The profession of Residential Building Designer is accepted in all 50 states and almost 8 out of 10 custom residential single family project designs are completed by other than an Architect, Landscape Architect, or Engineer --- at a greatly reduced cost.
